The EJK Bookmaking Competition is one of the NYC Public School’s most successful programs having flourished for almost four decades. It has inspired thousands of students to take pride in their reading and writing by showing them they can actually enjoy improving their literacy skills.
Children, born here and those who’ve moved here from across the country and around the world, write and illustrate stories about their lives and their dreams. Winners come from special education, gifted and mainstream programs, from traditional classrooms and even classrooms in prison. But every student who completes a book is treated like a winner because writing and illustrating a book is in itself a triumph.
Open to public schools in all five boroughs, for grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12, celebrations include an Award Ceremony and Exhibition of winning books at Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch.
