Snow Way, Math & Science Are Awesome!

Kate Terney, Teacher
Brock Road Elementary School
Spotsylvania, Virginia

The challenge was to integrate state requirements for language arts, math and science into the third-grade curriculum. The solution: Create a multi-subject learning experience anchored by The Snowy Day! The result was a perfect example of how enriching a collaborative program can be.

The children read The Snowy Day, exploring the language and characters, and wrote stories based on their own snowy days. Making paper snowflakes brought math concepts into the mix. A science experiment using dry ice failed, but finding other ways to use it turned the activity into a success. Making it all work was rewarding and fun for teachers and students alike. Way to raise the bar for next year’s program!
